JudgesTraining

We conduct two Judges Training sessions on February 8th and 22nd.   Teams ARE REQUIRED to provide a judge in order to participate in the tournament. It takes over 300 people to put on this event and they are all volunteers. Each team must do their part in providing a judge. Start making calls today if you don't already have a judge lined up.

-> Primary Division will have one session from 9:30-11:00 am. Primary teams must provide a volunteer to run a "station". The volunteer must arrive by 9:15. All problems and materials for Primary teams only will be provided.

-> Divisions I, II and III will choose from four sessions: 9-11 am, 12-2 pm, 3-5 pm or 6-8 pm. There are four sessions to choose from: 9-11am, 12-2pm, 3-5pm or 6-8pm.

Each session can have 20 teams.  Registration is first come - first served.

There is a cost $10 per team to cover cost of building rental and be paid via Paypal.

When you register, you MUST indicate the session you plan to attend AND a brief description of the problem your station will do and the space it needs (ie: table/chairs, 6’ x 6’ floor space, need a wall, etc.). This assures that we can  assign you to a station with adequate space. REGISTRATION CANNOT BE CONFIRMED WITHOUT THESE DETAILS!

This is not a spectator event so we asked that students be dropped off and parents return for pick up at the end of the two hours.

Getting Started

Form Teams

image26

Teams can have up to 7 students.  Students select a problem and complete with other teams with their age group (their division) at Regional, Association and National levels.

Find a Coach

image27

One of the most important roles in Odyssey of the Mind is that of the coach.   While the program is student driven, the coach provides the framework for the team by providing meeting space, help in problem solving and helping the team create their solution.

Often times we find that coaches are the parents of interested students.   We recommend that you involve other parents or find co-coach to assist in the support of the team and their efforts.

Select a Problem

image28

The core value for Odyssey of the Mind is that this is a student driven process.  The Students selects the problem, and then works the problem until the bring their solution to the Regional Tournament.

There are 5 problems each year so the team can select one that best matches their skills and aptitude.

Registering a Team

National Registration

image30

STOP... and read carefully.  If there are already established teams in your school district, there is likely a coordinator who will purchase the National Registration.  Please send us an email info@sfbayodysseyofthemind.org and we will put you in touch with the coordinator and they can help you find a team.

If you believe you would be the first team for Odyssey at your school, we recommend conducting an outreach to parents and students to gauge the interest level before you begin purchasing memberships.

There are several levels of membership and the  button at the right OVERVIEW OF MEMBERSHIPS, outlines what may be required.

NorCal Association Membership

Follow the link below to be redirected to the Northern California Association for Odyssey of the Mind.  It will outline the memberships required and provide links to those sites along with other valuable links.

Regional Tournament

Teams from schools from the San Francisco Bay Area Region compete in a one-day Tournament at Concord High School on February 29th.  Winning teams go on to compete at the Northern California Association tournament held in late March in Santa Rosa.  And the ultimate tournament is the World Finals conducted on Memorial Day weekend at an University  in the Midwest.
